Biden DOJ opposes court decision allowing Derek Chauvin chance to examine George Floyd's heart

A police bodycam recording captures the moment when former Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) officer Derek Chauvin is seen kneeling on George Floyd, alongside former MPD officer J. Alexander Kueng, during the incident that led to Floyd’s death in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020. The image, obtained from the MPD/Hennepin County District Court and shared via REUTERS, has drawn widespread attention and debate.

Nelson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Following his conviction for the murder of George Floyd, Derek Chauvin became the target of a violent attack in a federal prison, where another inmate reportedly stabbed him 22 times. This assault was supposedly incited by sentiments linked to the Black Lives Matter movement, which gained momentum in response to Floyd’s tragic demise but has faced criticism for some violent protests that have occurred across the nation.

Derek Chauvin was part of the team of officers who apprehended George Floyd for allegedly using a counterfeit $20 bill at a local coffee shop and resisting arrest. The ensuing events of that day sparked outrage and led to a global reckoning on racial injustice and police brutality.

Chauvin’s appeal of his state murder charges was rejected by the Supreme Court last year.
