Joe Biden shook the usual rules and blatantly disregarded them by issuing a pardon to his son, Hunter Biden. This pardon not only absolved Hunter of his proven wrongdoings but also shielded him from any potential misconduct spanning an 11-year period, from January 1, 2014, up to the pardon granted on December 1, 2024. Consequently, this immunity prevented federal pursuit regarding issues related to Burisma, foreign funds, or any influence peddling potentially linked to Joe. This act did not solely protect his son but also extended to safeguarding himself, which could be considered yet another unprecedented aspect of this particular pardon.
Furthermore, Biden is contemplating the possibility of extending this trend by granting preemptive pardons to other individuals. Some of the individuals under consideration for pardons include Anthony Fauci and the former Wyoming representative Liz Cheney. As previously mentioned, it’s probable that he might pardon himself as he nears the end of his term, along with some of his fellow Democrats. This action could be justified on the grounds of countering the alleged malevolence of the incoming President, Donald Trump.
Already, Biden has issued some pardons to convicted criminals, raising concerns. Though these pardons do not seem to involve creating a protective shield around himself or other Democrats at this stage.
