The faith-based production company Angel Studios has a new, animated movie about Jesus Christ himself—King of Kings—coming to theaters this weekend, just in time for the Easter holiday. And yes, the animation style is vaguely terrifying!
Written and directed by Seong-ho Jang, and loosely based on both the Charles Dickens children’s book The Life of Our Lord and the book of the Bible, King of Kings features the voice of Kenneth Branagh as Charles Dickens, who regales his son with the tale of the life and death of Jesus Christ. The King of Kings voice cast is stacked with Hollywood A-listers, including Oscar Isaac as Jesus Christ, Mark Hamill as King Herod, Pierce Brosnan as Pontius Pilate, Forest Whitaker as Peter, Ben Kingsley as High Priest Caiaphas, and Vanessa Marshall as Mary of Bethany.
There’s no better way to celebrate Easter than remembering the big man himself, so here’s what to know about where to watch the King of Kings 2025 movie and when we expect to see the King of Kings movie on streaming.
For now, King of Kings will only be available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in select theaters in the U.S. on Friday, April 11. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. King of Kings is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
King of Kings is not streaming on Netflix or Prime Video right now. While it’s possible King of Kings may stream on Netflix someday, it won’t be until after the theatrical run and digital release of the movie. King of Kings is not a Netflix original—it’s a small, independent film being distributed by Angel Studios, known for making faith-based films. So far, since the studio’s launch in 2021, none of Angel Studios movies have gone on to stream on Netflix. Never say never, but it’s unlikely you’ll see King of Kings streaming on Netflix anytime soon.
You will be able to purchase King of Kings on Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital, but you will not be able to stream King of Kings on Prime Video free with a Prime subscription any time soon, because it is not a Prime original movie. If you want to watch King of Kings movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms.
King of Kings is not streaming on Disney+, and will not be on Disney+ any time soon, due to the fact that the film is not a Disney movie. Not every animated movie is a Disney movie! Instead, the film will likely be released on digital platforms as well as streaming on the Angel Studios website in a few months.
The King of Kings movie digital release date has not yet been announced. However, we can make an educated guess as to when we might see King of Kings on video-on-demand, based on the digital release of previous films from this studio, Angel Studios.
Another Angel Studios movie, Brave the Dark, was released in theaters on January 24, and was released on digital platforms on March 28—aka, about two months after opening in theaters. If King of Kings follows a similar pattern, you might see the movie on video-on-demand in about two months, around June 2025. Around the same time or earlier, you will also likely see King of Kings streaming on the Angel Studios website, available to Angel Guild members, with subscriptions starting at $12 a month, or $119 a year.
But this is all speculation. Other Angel Studio movies took over three months to come to digital, and others are still only available to stream on the Angel Studios website with a guild membership. So if you want to see King of Kings right away, you should catch the movie in a theater.
