Carney took a defiant tone as he celebrated his victory:
Carney told cheering supporters that “Canada will never become part of America in any way, shape or form.”
In the recent leadership election, Carney won by a significant margin, securing 86% of the vote. Out of the 151,899 votes cast by the almost 400,000 registered party members, Carney received 131,764 votes.
Addressing party members, the new Liberal leader emphasized the upcoming election as crucial, urging them to gear up for what he described as “the most important election of our lives.” He highlighted the high stakes involved in the upcoming political contest.
Expressing patriotism, the incoming Canadian prime minister exalted Canada as the “greatest country in the world” and rallied against any attempts to diminish its sovereignty. He referred to President Donald Trump’s aspirations of annexing Canada as the “51st state” and firmly rejected such notions.
