Candid Moments Between Obama, Trump, Pence, Jill, and Kamala Captured at Carter Funeral

How can you handle a scenario where many individuals who genuinely dislike each other need to endure each other’s presence at a funeral?

This was the challenge faced by the current and former presidents and vice presidents when they gathered at Jimmy Carter’s funeral in Washington, D.C.

There were some truly golden moments as you had to be wondering what was going through the heads of the people involved. 

President Donald Trump was the first to navigate this delicate situation as he walked past Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who was seated. Trudeau’s sideways glance at Trump was quite noticeable.

Then there was that moment where Trump had to shake hands with former VPs Al Gore and Mike Pence. Gore popped up and held out his hand, and I think that probably was easier than the handshake between Pence and Trump. I don’t think either of them were into that at all. But they did it anyway. But notice Barack Obama and the Bushes walk right by the Trumps without acknowledging them at all, and then Barack goes to shake hands with Gore and Pence. The Clintons come in and ignore the Trumps, too. 

LOTS OF MATERIAL SO FAR AT JIMMY CARTER’S FUNERAL:

– Trump shakes hands with Mike Pence.

– Obama does not shake Trump or Melania’s hand – but shakes everyone else’s hands.

– Bush walks right past the Trump’s, then slaps Obama in the stomach and shakes hands with everyone else.

Translation? Those norms again, Trump upholds them, but Obama, Clinton, and the Bushes don’t. Where’s Michelle? And George W. has really aged. Melania didn’t look happy. 

In answer to where’s Michelle? “Scheduling conflict,” i.e. she’s on an extended vacation in Hawaii. Um, isn’t she now permanently on vacation? 

HOW UTTERLY DISRESPECTFUL: CNN says that Michelle Obama has a “scheduling conflict, and she is still actually in Hawaii on an extended holiday vacation.”

You mean she can’t even fly in for the funeral when everyone else is there? That’s Michelle Obama. Melania isn’t a fan of all the media and the hype, but she’s there because she’s supposed to be. 

There was a lot of conversation going on between Obama and Trump. This perhaps was the most interesting moment. What did Trump just tell Obama? It looks like a knee-slapper.

I’m betting it had to do with Joe Biden, and Obama just couldn’t help himself. Trump can be enormously funny and disarming. But now you will have the picture of Obama laughing with “Hitler,” and it dashes that narrative again. 

When Joe and Jill came in, they had to sit next to Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff. Even CNN got that this did not go over well. Talk about a chilly reception — this was it. 

BREAKING: Jill Biden and Kamala Harris completely ignore each other after being forced to sit next to each other.

Jill Biden literally turns her head away as soon as she sits down and looks visibly aggravated even being near Kamala. Wow.

“Didn’t seem like a typically warm greeting,” Jake Tapper opined. Yes, that’s putting it lightly. “Could they hate each other any more?” was the look.

Look at the gap between Jill and Kamala in that picture. 

Then we can’t leave without a “was Joe Biden sleeping” picture. I think, under the circumstances, he could be in thought/prayer. But everyone here looks in bad shape, and Hillary has to be furious that Trump is going to be president again, and he’s just a few seats away.
