Historic four-bedroom home hits the market for $200k... but there's a creepy catch

A slice of Pennsylvania heritage has just hit the market for $200,000 but it comes with a creepy catch.

There is more than meets the eye to this four-bedroom Victorian home in Bellefonte, listed for an eye-catching $200,000.

The property showcases a charming Folk Victorian design with a gabled facade, exuding architectural beauty. However, beneath its aesthetic appeal lies a somewhat eerie history. Legend has it that the house once functioned as the gatehouse for Union Cemetery, serving as the residence for the cemetery’s superintendent.

The home would have been at the epicenter of countless funerals and burials during its long history.

Constructed in 1859, the house’s historical roots have been authenticated by The Bellefonte Historical and Cultural Association. Despite this confirmation, there are lingering enigmas surrounding its origins.

According to certain historians, there is speculation that the house initially operated as a law office for Andrew Gregg Curtin, a prominent figure as a Civil War governor. The theory suggests that the building could have been moved from its original location in downtown Bellefonte to where it stands today.

Others firmly believe it was constructed as the cemetery’s gatehouse, a functional home for the superintendent tasked with looking after the graves and the grounds.

Whatever its past, in the present the home is seeking a new buyer with a recent fresh coat of paint preserving its vintage charm and making it a standout in the neighborhood.
