Typically, these mayors are situated in blue cities within blue states. However, Chicago stands out as a hub where political corruption thrives, with Mayor Brandon Johnson leading the pack of ineffective Democratic mayors. His strategy is simple: disregard the concerns of your constituents and eject them from meetings if they become too vocal.

This scenario unfolded during a city budget meeting in 2025 in Chicago, as residents expressed their disapproval loudly regarding the funding allocated for illegal immigrants. Despite facing opposition, Johnson managed to push his 2025 budget through after a temporary recess was called to remove protesting citizens so that council members could vote. It took Johnson six weeks to garner sufficient support from City Council members for the budget’s approval. Initially, the budget proposed a substantial $300 million property tax increase, which opponents succeeded in reducing to $60 million. Nonetheless, the budget still includes a $40 million short-term loan to postpone the city’s debt repayment.
