Reality TV icons and newcomers compete for $1 million in 'Got to Get Out' hosted by Simu Liu

LOS ANGELES — Simu Liu is the host of the new reality competition show “Got to Get Out.” The show features 20 contestants competing for a million-dollar prize.

In “Got to Get Out,” a mix of seasoned reality TV stars and newbies are placed in a house for 10 days. They engage in deception as they hope for a shot at winning a large sum of money. Participants face the choice of working together to split the prize or taking a risk to try and claim it all for themselves.

Simu Liu infuses the competition with his charm and humor, playfully interacting with the contestants. He particularly enjoys poking fun at Spencer Pratt, a former “The Hills” star, for his surprising creativity during the game.

“Spencer’s not a difficult person to make fun of from an eagle-eye perspective,” he said. “The man hid himself in a pile of literal trash to get taken out along with the garbage.”

For Simu, the unpredictable nature of the show is one of its most enjoyable aspects.

“It’s all kind of up to the cast, whatever they do,” he says, relishing the chaos that the show brings.

A tense moment for contestants comes when they realize someone is attempting to escape. At that point, they can push a button to close the gates of the house and trigger an alarm that alerts everyone.

“You want to recruit some people, you want to do it alone,” Liu added. “I get to just kind of sit back and comment, and we all get to watch what unfolds together.”

From alliances to long-game strategies, “Got to Get Out” is bringing it back to the reality TV roots.

Contestants Spencer Pratt and Omarosa told On The Red Carpet about the strategies they employed throughout the competition.

Pratt noted how he “was trying to get out there without using an alliance,” going on to say, “I really just wanted to just jump somebody else’s plan and get out before they could get to it.”

Reality TV veteran Omarosa said the series gets “back to those original reality TV roots, where you see these physical challenges. You see people having to use their brains and be strategic.”

Curious to see how it all plays out? “Got to Get Out” premieres with all eight episodes April 11 on Hulu.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Hulu and this ABC Station.
