HOUSTON, Texas — A Houston designer is transforming closet cast-offs and thrift store finds into amazing upcycled fashion.
Angelina McCullar is the creator of Blueprint DIY, a YouTube channel devoted to creating your own thrifty, repurposed fashion looks.
“Sharing my passion for transforming clothing through Blueprint DIY is important to me,” explained Angelina. “Whether it’s making minor adjustments or completely reinventing garments, I love showcasing this process. The concept for Blueprint DIY originated 12 years ago on YouTube, inspired by watching fellow creators thrift shopping or customizing their wardrobe with simple modifications. Having learned sewing from my mom at a young age, I felt compelled to spread awareness about this skill. I believe everyone should have the ability to tailor their clothes to fit well or revamp them according to their taste and identity.”
Her YouTube channel, which has now grown to over 466,000 subscribers, inspired Angelina to create her own streetwear line, Blueprint Signature.
“Our product range includes a variety of items such as bags, skirts, jogger pants, backpacks, and other distinctive pieces,” she shared. “By combining Blueprint DIY and Blueprint Signature, we offer a comprehensive solution, catering to fashion enthusiasts and individuals with a knack for crafting their own style.”
She also recently released her first book, The Impatient Beginner’s Guide to Sewing, which includes QR codes that link to online video tutorials.
“Although it may appear to revolve solely around fashion, Blueprint DIY transcends mere clothing,” Angelina noted. “Having clothing that aligns with your unique style and personality can immensely impact how you feel and present yourself to the world. It’s about empowerment and self-expression, making a significant difference in one’s confidence and outlook.”
