David Oyelowo‘s late mother may no longer be with us, but the actor is continuing her legacy with heartwarming and hilarious memories of her.
Kelly Clarkson mentioned the actor’s mother’s opinions on his work during Friday’s episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” She asked how his mom would react to his new Apple TV+ dramedy.
Oyelowo shared, “My mom would be a big fan until my character kisses Simone Missick on the show. She struggled to grasp the concept of fiction. If I kissed another woman on screen, she would insist I was having an affair, right in front of everyone!”
As she laughed, Clarkson quipped, “Shame on your family.”
Oyelowo teased that his wife, fellow actress Jessica Oyelowo, would be “sat next to [him] at the screening” when this took place.
Clarkson added, “This is called acting.”
And the same took place when the actor’s character passed away in a project.
He humorously recounted another scenario, saying, “Even if my character died, no matter how well done it was, she would approach me and playfully scold, ‘Why did you make me watch that? I don’t want to see my son die again!'”
Clarkson got a kick out of Oyelowo’s “amazing” impersonation, reiterating, “Just a recap, not dead. Acting.”
Oyelowo said, “Yes, exactly, yes. Literally stood in front of you, Mummy.”
The Kelly Clarkson Show airs on weekdays. Check out their website for your local listings. The first four episodes of Government Cheese are streaming on Apple TV+.
