Defense hammers 'ridiculous' evidence in Karen Read closing, says case is 'cooked'

Alan Jackson, the lead defense attorney for Karen Read, passionately called on the jury to declare her innocent during his closing statement on Friday. He challenged the prosecution’s version of events, particularly disputing the timeline presented regarding the night when Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe tragically passed away in Canton, which is approximately 20 miles south of the city.

Read, aged 45, stands accused of allegedly crashing her 2021 Lexus SUV into her ex-boyfriend, who was 46 years old at the time, and abandoning him to perish on the snowy ground on January 29, 2022.

“There was no collision,” Jackson told jurors. “There was no collision. There was no collision.”

Both Read’s defense team and attorney Brennan are anticipated to intensify their efforts in swaying the jurors by presenting contrasting narratives about O’Keefe’s fate. The defense adamantly asserts that her car never collided with the victim.

Read faces 15 years to life in prison if convicted on the top charge of second-degree murder. If convicted of drunken driving manslaughter, she would face 5 to 20.
