Panic Hits Democrats as Trump Goes After Their Money and Infrastructure

President Trump is causing upheaval within the Democrat party’s infrastructure, leaving progressives in a state of panic. The New York Times reported on Trump’s assaults on Democrat funding, fundraising initiatives, organizational structures, and legal entities, presenting a threat that echoes previous challenges faced by the Republican party.

The article points out Trump’s implementation of what can be viewed as economic penalties on three prominent Democrat-connected law firms – Perkins Coie, Covington & Burlington, and Paul Weiss – through the use of executive orders. Paul Weiss has chosen to find common ground with Trump, while the other firms are contesting his actions in court.

Another area of concern is the potential for Trump to scrutinize and nullify the non-profit status of certain explicitly partisan non-profits that operate to advance progressive agendas and support candidates.

Mr. Trump himself appeared to call into question the charitable tax-exempt status of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, or CREW, a Democratic-aligned watchdog group that has long been among the more aggressive litigants against him and is currently suing to force the release of records related to Mr. Musk’s cost-cutting.

“CREW is a charitable organization, and that’s a political thing,” Mr. Trump said on Friday at the Justice Department, singling out Norm Eisen, a former board member, as a “vicious and violent” person who has “been after me for nine years.” (Mr. Eisen’s new group, State Democracy Defenders Fund, has also fought some of the new administration’s actions in court.)

Jordan Libowitz, a CREW spokesman, declined to comment on Mr. Trump’s mention of the group.

CREW is non-partisan in the same way I’m non-partisan. Not mentioned is the article is the odious “Media Matters for America,” which, while a non-profit, functions as the special needs wing of the Democrat non-profit group.

Most of the article is devoted to the attention devoted to ActBlue and an attempt to frame criticism of ActBlue as some fantasy Elon Musk has dreamed up.

“Something stinks about ActBlue,” Mr. Musk March 7 in one of several social media posts about the platform. A day later, he claimed without evidence that ActBlue was funded by Democratic megadonors including Herb Sandler, who died in 2019.

Any time you see a leftist media outlet refer to something as being “without evidence,” you know that what they are talking about is correct.

BACKGROUND:

ActBlue has accepted anonymous gift cards.

They also seem to be running a script that allows small donations, in the $2 range, to be repeatedly made on behalf of unsuspecting donors.

Strangely unmentioned in the article is the administration’s assault on the motherlode of dark money in American politics: USAID. Shutting down the pipeline of federal money into shady NGOs and non-profits is, in my opinion, one of the critical reasons we haven’t seen riots in the streets and mobs in front of Trump officials’s homes.

“The breadth is breathtaking,” said Cole Leiter, executive director of Americans Against Government Censorship, a coalition of progressive groups and labor unions created last year to defend against an anticipated Republican assault. Taken together, Mr. Leiter said, the efforts amounted to an attempt “to cut the legs out from their opposition.”

It may “sound conspiratorial,” Mr. Leiter added, “but the reality is it’s a sober description of what they’re trying to do.”

This is only breathtaking because it involves Democrats. We conservatives call it “Tuesday.” We’ve seen legitimate conservative 501(c)3s refused IRS certification or even decertified because their names included words like “Patriot” and “America.”

Prominent members of the conservative movement have found themselves and their families and businesses “debanked.” The FBI opened a terrorism investigation of conservative Catholics.

What makes this different is what seems to be money laundering and borderline identity theft involved in using the names of random people to cover donations.

Hopefully, the Department of Justice and FBI will have something to say about that.
