Where Is ‘Ransom Canyon’ Filmed?

Ransom Canyon offers Texas, love, and ranching in whatever order you’d like and however you’d like it.

The story of the Western drama revolves around two feuding families and the romantic connection between a rugged rancher named Staten (played by Josh Duhamel) and Quinn, who is the friend of Staten’s late wife and owns a bar (portrayed by Minka Kelly).

Executive producer April Blair spoke with Netflix’s Tudum about the deeper significance of the town:

Blair, one of the creators of the series, described Ransom Canyon not just as a location but as a symbol. It embodies the yearning for a past love, the fierce desire to safeguard one’s family, and a mix of cowboys, lovers, tricksters, and outlaws. The essence of Ransom Canyon comprises passion, deception, heartbreak, and a place to belong.

Ransom Canyon is the vessel through which all the drama flows.

Many viewers are curious about whether Ransom Canyon exists in reality and if the series was actually filmed there. Fear not, as we delve into the answers to these ponderings. Stay tuned for more information.

Ransom Canyon is a real place; it is a town in Lubbock County, northwest Texas.

However, fans wouldn’t have to travel to the real Ransom Canyon to see where the show was filmed. According to Tudum, the series was shot in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and remote parts of New Mexico.

Blair told Tudum, “Most of New Mexico is adobe architecture, and there’s this one little old mining town in northern New Mexico very close to the Texas border called Las Vegas, ironically, that just looks like an old Texas town. It has all the old turn of the century architecture and storefronts.”

The area offered a very western feel and replicates Texas seamlessly.

Tudum also reported that the show’s leads, Duhamel and Kelly, share rural backgrounds. Duhamel grew up in Minnesota, and Kelly in Albuquerque. This gave them a deeper appreciation for the dedication to detail regarding the show’s filming location.

Kelly described how she connected deeply with her character and her hometown, telling Tudum, “It just made me see Albuquerque with new eyes. It made me appreciate it and love all the beauty that it has to offer that I never really was able to recognize when I was a child or a teenager.”

She added, “It’s the same for Quinn. She’s like, ‘New York was great, but there’s something about my hometown that I feel really drawn to, and a responsibility to give back to.’”

The beauty of Albuquerque is something that both the leads and fans can appreciate.

All episodes of Ransom Canyon Season 1 are now available on Netflix.
