CHICAGO (WLS) — The James Beard Awards are Monday night in Chicago.
It is another banner year for Chicago in terms of nominees, and the excitement is at an all-time high.

According to many top chefs and restaurant owners in Chicago, the James Beard Awards are not just a ceremony but an event that can change lives and careers. It also brings a positive focus on the city, labeling it as a culinary capital.
Regarded as one of the most prestigious accolades in the culinary and hospitality fields, the James Beard Awards are often likened to the “Oscars of the food world.”
This year marks the 35th anniversary of the awards ceremony celebrating excellence in all things related to taste. Additionally, it is the 10th consecutive year that these prestigious awards have been held in the vibrant city of Chicago.
To no one’s surprise, Chicago, well-known for its food scene, boasts several nominees on Monday night.
There are three nominees for Best Chef Great Lakes:
- Chris Jung and his partner, Erling Wu-Bower from Maxwell’s Trading in West Town
- Thai Dang from Haisous in Pilsen
- Noah Sandoval from Oriole in the Fulton River District
Galit in Lincoln Park is up for Outstanding Restaurant, nationwide. Galit specializes in Middle Eastern dishes and unique beverages.
Kumiko, which is in Fulton River District neighborhood, is nominated for Outstanding Bar. It’s known for its seasonal tasting menus and drink pairing options.
On the red carpet, ABC7 got a chance to catch up with another hometown-based nominee Julia Momosé, the owner, bartender and creative force behind Kumiko.
The awards started at 6 p.m. at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
There will be a reception at Chicago Union Station.
