LOS ANGELES — A live action “Lilo & Stitch 2″ is officially in development at Disney!
On Thursday, June 26, a.k.a. “626 Day,” Disney announced that a sequel to the live action blockbuster hit “Lilo & Stitch” is now in development.
The news was announced across their @disney social media handles, with a video of Stitch wreaking havoc across the Walt Disney Studios backlot.
The video shows Stitch driving a pink convertible car with a license plate that says “2 FAST” as he speeds around the area. He later confirms the news with a message left in tire tracks.
During its debut weekend, “Lilo & Stitch” made an impressive $361.3 million globally, breaking the record for the biggest 4-day Memorial Day weekend opening in the domestic market. Since its premiere on May 23, the movie has earned $914.3 million worldwide and is expected to surpass $1 billion in box office revenue.
Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and featuring Maia Kealoha as Lilo and Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Nani, the film secured the position of the third-highest Disney Live Action global opening ever, following the successes of “The Lion King” in 2019 and “Beauty and the Beast” in 2017.
