A judge in Hawaii has denied bail to a doctor who allegedly tried to kill his wife while the two were hiking on a Honolulu trail in March.
46-year-old Dr. Gerhardt Konig, who works as an anesthesiologist, has been accused of attempted second-degree murder for allegedly attempting to kill his wife while they were hiking on Oahu’s Pali Lookout trail on March 24. Initially, his bail was established at $5 million.
Konig has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.
Konig’s legal team has presented a motion contending that the bail amount should be more reasonable, especially considering the fact that he does not have a past criminal record. However, the prosecution objected to this request for bail reduction, asserting that Konig could potentially face life imprisonment, particularly highlighting his alleged attempt to escape the area following the incident.
Prosecutors also wrote in the court filing that Konig allegedly called his adult son after the attack, telling him he “tried to kill your stepmom.”
