The murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December 2024 has been a major news story. Amid the ongoing court trial of suspect Luigi Mangione, a new documentary has been released.
Available for streaming on Tubi, the documentary titled New York Post Presents: Luigi Mangione Monster or Martyr? aims to explore the controversial figure of Luigi Mangione and his alleged involvement in the murder of Brian Thompson.
The documentary, running for nearly an hour, delves into the coverage of the murder by the New York Post, featuring insights from both the newspaper and Page Six. It includes interviews with personnel from the New York Post and other individuals such as retired NYPD Homicide Detective William McNeely and comedian Jourdain Fisher. (Please note: Decider is a part of the New York Post Digital Network).
New York Post Presents: Luigi Mangione Monster or Martyr? not only delves into Mangione’s backstory, but also digs into the overwhelming social media reactions to the case, including many who have lauded the murder and praised Mangione’s good looks.
On the morning of Dec. 4, 2024, Thompson was shot outside of the Hilton Midtown hotel. While the public waited for days for a suspect to be named in the case, Mangione was arrested not long after. According to PBS News, Mangione was apprehended at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania on Dec. 9, 2024.
After being extradited to New York and being charged with stalking and murdering Thompson, Mangione pleaded not guilty to said charges on Dec. 23, 2024.
This new documentary follows the release of ABC’s Manhunt: Luigi Mangione and the CEO Murder — A Special Edition of 20/20 — which debuted on the network on Dec. 19, 2024 and is now streaming on Hulu — and preceded TMZ Investigates: Luigi Mangione: The Mind of a Killer, which premieres on Fox on Monday (Jan. 6).
