The White House has started offering buyouts equivalent to eight months of salary to federal employees who decide to resign from their positions by February 6. This initiative is part of President Donald Trump’s significant reorganization of the U.S. government.
According to a memo from the Office of Personnel Management, the federal government’s human resources agency, there are four directives that Trump is implementing for the federal workforce. One of these directives specifies that most employees are expected to return to working full-time at their offices.
It includes a “deferred resignation letter” for federal employees wishing to participate.
“If you decide not to continue in your current position in the federal workforce, we appreciate your service to the country, and you will be offered a respectful and equitable exit from the federal government through a deferred resignation program,” the email states. “This program commences on January 28 and is open to all federal employees until February 6.”
It adds, “If you resign under this program, you will retain all pay and benefits regardless of your daily workload and will be exempted from all applicable in-person work requirements until September 30.”
