Drew Barrymore is addressing her infamous Drew Barrymore Show interview with Martha Stewart.
During the latest episode of Watch What Happens Live on Wednesday night, the actress clarified that Stewart was joking when she playfully pushed her away on a visit to The Drew Barrymore Show in November 2024.
Barrymore shared with host Andy Cohen, “I believe she was just joking. I can now say confidently that Martha does like me. The internet misinterpreted the moment and blew it out of proportion.”
Reflecting on her initial impression of Stewart, Barrymore confessed, “At first, I thought she didn’t like me. However, I believe I’ve made a connection with her now. She doesn’t have any ill feelings towards me.”
During their awkward chat, Barrymore asked Stewart to describe what makes her feel “soft and gooey” inside.
“What makes me soft and gooey? Soft and gooey treatment,” Stewart replied, to which Barrymore added, “When you’re treated like a lady.”
The 50 First Dates star, who is known for being touchy-feely, began stroking Stewart’s back, but the cookbook author quickly pushed her away and said, “You’re the wrong gender,” as Barrymore fell back onto the couch.
Barrymore, for her part, said she “can’t control” her up-close-and-personal interview style.
“I got focus-grouped when we launched and it was not good. It was awful,” she said, noting that her promise to keep her distance in 2025 has not been going well.
Luckily, she has yet to have a bad experience invading her guests’ personal space.
“Here’s the best news! No one has had bad breath yet,” she said. “And I am, like, pupil to pupil [with them]. And nobody’s had bad breath.”
Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
