A woman received her sentence for the murder of her husband in 2023.
Ellen Gilland pleaded no contest to shooting and killing her terminally ill husband inside a Daytona Beach, Florida hospital.
Gilland previously admitted to killing her terminally ill husband and said it’s what he wanted.
During the trial, a woman recounted a chilling moment when she pointed a gun at her husband’s head, eventually leading to his tragic demise. After questioning his certainty, he made a fateful decision, pushing the gun towards himself and ending his life with a single shot.
Following the incident, the woman, named Gilland, who had been free on bail, received a sentence of close to a year for the crime. Without delay, she was taken into custody to commence her term of imprisonment.
Although some aspects of Gilland’s account were acknowledged by Judge Kathryn Weston, she was ultimately sent to prison. This decision was influenced by the emotional impact experienced by the medical and law enforcement personnel who responded to the distressing events of that day.
Gilland did barricade herself in the room for several hours and threatened to shoot anyone who came in.
“We’re very thankful again to judge Weston and showing compassion to Ms. Gilland and taking into consideration all the mitigation that we provided,” defense attorney Matthew Ferry said.
Ferry hoping she’d be sentenced to probation; however, he was happy with the outcome, considering she faced up to 10 years behind bars.
