Vice President JD Vance delivered a scathing critique of Europe during the Munich Security Conference, calling out the continent for various shortcomings. His speech, characterized as “blistering” by RedState’s Bonchie, highlighted European hypocrisy on democracy and freedom of expression, urging the need for internal improvements.
Other than that, it was a mild affair.
Of significant focus was the case of Adam Smith-Connor, who made headlines after being convicted in October 2024 for silently praying near an abortion clinic for his unborn son. The verdict, which resulted in a two-year conditional discharge and a £9,000 fine, was criticized by Smith-Connor as an infringement on freedom of thought.
Vance lit into the U.K. for this ridiculous example of “justice”:
Vance, in his address, extended an olive branch, expressing a willingness to collaborate and champion freedom of speech. Under the current administration, led by Donald Trump, Vance emphasized a commitment to uphold individuals’ rights to express their opinions, fostering a platform for diverse viewpoints in the public sphere.
