LOS ANGELES — Disney has teamed up with soccer star Lionel Messi to create a new sci-fi animated series called “Messi and the Giants”. This show follows the adventures of 12-year-old Leo from Argentina, who finds himself in a mysterious alternate world.
In each 22-minute episode, viewers will join Leo on a thrilling journey as he is transported from his hometown to Iko, a realm controlled by powerful Giants. As a leader from another world, Leo takes on the challenge of battling the villains who oppress the 10 realms and their inhabitants.
“I have always aspired to participate in a project that promotes the values of sports, principles that have guided my own career, to younger generations. The essence of teamwork, perseverance, discipline, and hard work can make anything possible,” expressed Lionel Messi. “I am excited to share this series with children worldwide, hoping to inspire and encourage them to pursue their dreams. Since my own childhood, I have cherished animated series, and I am eager to enjoy this show with my own children.”
“Messi and the Giants” isn’t just a soccer show though, we watch what Leo needs to do to achieve his destiny, learn how to be a part of a team and finding the needed strength when you think you don’t have it. Leo is learning what it takes to be a hero before actually becoming the hero.
“Messi and the Giants” will premiere on Disney Channel, followed by Disney Channel On Demand and globally on Disney+. The official premiere date has not been announced.
The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Disney Channel and this ABC station.
