In a ritzy enclave of South Florida, Chinese migrants are coming ashore via boat, leading to an investigation into human smuggling networks.
Coral Gables, a charming city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, is famous for its Mediterranean Revival architecture, tree-lined streets, and beautiful landscapes. Among its neighborhoods, Gables Estates stands out as the most expensive housing market in the United States, as reported by Zillow.
But in recent months, the dazzling city has seen an uptick of Chinese migrant interceptions.
The rise in Coral Gables’ popularity reflects a larger trend in Florida, where there has been an increase in the number of Chinese nationals moving to the state since 2020, according to data from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. In the span of four years, from 2020 to 2024, the number of Chinese migrants encountered by Florida Border Protection officers rose from 406 to 723, marking a significant 78% growth.
A call for enhanced collaboration between state and national authorities has been made to address the situation. Suggestions include better resource sharing and the implementation of advanced air-based technologies at the border. Utilizing surveillance drones and updating existing technology are among the recommendations put forward for consideration.
Fox News Digital has reached out to the Coral Gables Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security for comment.
