In Season 3 Episode 2 of And Just Like That… titled “The Rat Race,” a new character makes a grand entrance. Logan Marshall-Green portrays Adam, a stylish gardener from New York City who steps in to help Carrie (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) in more ways than one. Adam’s arrival in the world of Sex and the City is wonderfully scripted, exuding a classic romantic vibe reminiscent of old Hollywood, making viewers root for Carrie to choose him over Aidan (John Corbett).
Although it seems unlikely that Carrie will change her affections, teasers for Season 3 of And Just Like That… hint that Adam might become a love interest for Seema (Sarita Choudhury). However, it’s undeniable that Adam, the attractive gardener, adds a fresh dynamic that the show was lacking.
**Spoilers for And Just Like That… Season 3 Episode 2 “The Rat Race,” now streaming on MAX**
Devoted And Just Like That… fans are aware that Carrie Bradshaw has bid adieu to her iconic Sex and the City bachelorette pad and now resides in a luxurious home in Gramercy Park. This historic abode boasts a stunning garden plagued by a rat infestation. As exterminators dismantle the once-beautiful garden to eradicate the pests, Carrie is faced with a new predicament – what will she do with the garden now?
Carrie does what any modern woman of means would do and turns to Instagram. She discovers the enchanting designs of a trendy gardener named Adam and makes the call. When Adam finally arrives for his consultation, he wins Carrie — and the audience — over by providing another incredible service. Namely, he saves Shoe the cat after she escapes Carrie’s house.
Maybe this makes me a total mark, but seeing this incredibly handsome man, sporting a tight t-shirt, aged leather satchel, and fluffy kitten made me absolutely melt. I almost went feral. This is the type of man that And Just Like That… has been missing! Sure, it’s fun that Aidan is back and I’ll always adore Harry (Evan Handler) for Charlotte, but an under-appreciated part of the original Sex and the City was the constant churn of crush material. With Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) pursuing sapphic sex partners and Carrie devoting herself to Aidan, I was worried And Just Like That... would continue to leave me, a heterosexual woman, in the lurch. I was wrong.
Because Carrie and Aidan are in the throes of a long-distance situationship, my initial thought was that she should have a bit of “fun” with Adam. Add some spice to the show, already! However, the more I think about it (and reflect on the pointed editing choice to show Seema and Adam together in the show’s ad campaign), I can admit that’s a bad idea. If Carrie hooked up with Adam, it would likely just be a quick, messy affair. Adam would be off the show in no time.
And I don’t know about you, but I want to enjoy the sight of a handsome gardener tinkering away in Carrie’s space for a while now.
Logan Marshall-Green, welcome to the world of And Just Like That… and many SATC superfans’ fantasies.
