Friends fans have been left baffled after noticing a different version of an iconic scene featuring Lisa Kudrow and Matthew Perry.
A video clip has been widely shared online showing Lisa Kudrow’s character Phoebe dancing for Matthew Perry’s character Chandler. The footage compares a scene from the original upload on YouTube with the one on the streaming platform Max.
There are very noticeable differences between the two scenes including when the cuts are made and even in some of the movement.
There is also obvious upscaling for HDTV purposes as both actors skin appears differently.
It was posted on Instagram with the caption: ‘Why are they not the same?’
There has been no explanation given for why the two clips are so different.
The clip comes from season 5 episode 14 – titled The One Where Everybody Finds Out – which aired on February 11, 1999.
The particular episode is considered one of the most memorable in the Friends series, revealing the moment when the group discovers Chandler’s relationship with Monica Gellar, portrayed by Courteney Cox.
This iconic scene occurs towards the end of the episode, where Phoebe performs a seductive dance in an attempt to coax Chandler into confessing his romance with Monica. However, Chandler and Monica catch on to Phoebe’s ploy and engage in a playful game of chicken.
This comes weeks after Kudrow recently said that she has discovered a note from the late Perry, which he had stuffed inside the ‘Cookie Time’ jar from the Burbank set of the hit NBC sitcom.
‘Matthew gave that to me at the end of our last episode,’ the 61-year-old Emmy winner recalled on Tuesday’s Drew Barrymore Show.
‘I had recently found the note that he had in it for me. I hadn’t opened it up or looked inside of it. But yeah, he did. He had a note in there and I forgot about it.’
Without revealing what Perry wrote, Lisa emotionally remarked: ‘Timing is everything.’
Kudrow had previously told Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2020 that the five-time Emmy nominee gifted her the prop when they wrapped, because he found it hilarious that she thought it was a working clock while shooting a scene.
‘I think the first thing I asked was, “This was so nice – did you get permission?”‘ the No Good Deed star said.
‘I mean, my car used to get searched every night when I left.’
Lisa also held on to her security badges and her character Phoebe Buffay’s rings after Friends concluded in 2004 following 10 seasons.
Matthew passed away, age 54, in 2023 from acute effects of the anesthetic ketamine and five people have since been indicted and charged as part of the LAPD’s ensuing investigation.
A couple weeks later, Kudrow posted a Polaroid of them attending the 1994 NBC Upfronts and thanked him for trusting her, teaching her about grace and love, and making her laugh to the point of tears ‘every day.’
The San Fernando Valley Girl previously revealed last month on the Dinner’s on Me podcast that the Friends cast only reunited twice since their show ended – for an intimate dinner in 2014 at someone’s house and HBO Max’s 2021 Friends: The Reunion special.
The 49-year-old talk show host begged Lisa for an update on the follow-up to her 1997 cult classic comedy, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, co-starring Mira Sorvino.
‘[Mira] said it perfectly. We’re as close as we have ever been. There’s a script that’s really good. [Original screenwriter] Robin Schiff wrote it,’ Kudrow beamed.
‘So it’ll happen! I mean, we’ll see. Because having a close friend it’s about you know friends that love each other – which is funny because I was on a show that was like that too – but but that is basically what it is.’
The 57-year-old Oscar winner told People last November that they both signed their deals to executive produce and reprise their roles as Romy White and Michele Weinberger in the sequel, which is rumored to start shooting in the ‘second quarter’ of this year.
On the personal front, Lisa and her husband – French advertising executive Michael Stern – are proud parents of 26-year-old son Julian and they’ll impressively celebrate 30 years of marriage on May 27.
‘You know, it’s not a romance. It’s even more than a family member. I mean, it’s the most intimate relationship you can have,’ Kudrow told Barrymore.
‘It’s different from kids but, by 30 years, I’m not going anywhere, no way. That’s how I feel about it.’
