A well-known Hawaii businessman who led a vast illegal scheme by channeling drug proceeds through fake companies and orchestrating the brutal treatment and murder of his deceased son’s close companion, passed away in federal custody due to an opioid overdose, as revealed by Honolulu’s medical examiner on Tuesday.
Michael Miske, aged 50, succumbed to “fentanyl and para-fluorofentanyl toxicity,” as indicated by the statement from the medical examiner’s office obtained by the Associated Press. Although the demise seems to be accidental, investigations are ongoing as mentioned by the news agency, with an official autopsy report anticipated within the next 30 days.
Miske was discovered unconscious at the Honolulu Federal Detention Center on Dec. 1. Despite efforts from the facility’s personnel and emergency medical teams, they were unable to revive him, as reported by the Bureau of Prisons to the AP.
The Hawaiian crime boss was convicted of racketeering conspiracy, murder, and 11 other felony charges on July 18, a July 24 Justice Department press release said. Although his sentencing was originally scheduled for this November, the AP reports it was set to happen on Jan. 30.

Miske’s conviction entitled the government to take control of up to $28 million in assets, including boats, houses and artwork.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons did not immediately respond to a Fox News Digital request for comment.
