There is a sense of confusion among Western North Carolina residents regarding the assistance provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
This confusion is amplified as FEMA is set to terminate temporary housing aid for approximately 2,000 residents of North Carolina during an upcoming snowstorm, with temperatures in the Appalachian Mountain region expected to drop below 20 degrees.
The housing program was initially supposed to end on Friday, but FEMA pushed the deadline back to Saturday.
“I have been in contact with multiple individuals who are facing the expiration of their FEMA vouchers,” shared Ryan McClymonds, the founder of the volunteer organization Operation Boots on the Ground in Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee, in an interview with Fox News Digital on Friday. “They are fearful about not having shelter for their families starting tomorrow. However, we received information late last night that FEMA has granted a mere 24-hour extension,” he added.
