Latin American gangs have increasingly expanded their presence on American territory, contributing to escalated levels of violence and drug trade. This has become a significant challenge for communities dealing with both illegal immigration and drug distribution networks.
Former Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Senior Special Agent Michael Brown, who now serves as the global director of counter-narcotics technology at Rigaku Analytical Devices, shared insights on the influence of Latin American gangs within U.S. communities in an interview with Fox News Digital.
“We are observing a sophisticated narco infrastructure, essentially a narco state, facilitating the transportation of large quantities of drugs into the United States. This influx has a direct correlation with the proliferation of drug trafficking activities and violence orchestrated by various criminal organizations,” explained Brown.
Brown said that cartels are not just street-level groups, but highly organized criminal enterprises that control drug trafficking and engage in violent turf wars.
