Former Deerfield High School wrestling coach, Alexander Evan Cohen, accused of having child pornography, according to District 113 officials

DEERFIELD, Ill. (WLS) — A former volunteer wrestling coach for a north suburban high school is facing child pornography charge, court records show.

Alexander Evan Cohen was arrested and charged with 10 felony counts of possessing child pornography in October 2024, records show.

Cohen volunteered as a coach for the Deerfield High School Boys Wrestling Team during the school years of 2018-2019 and 2019-2020, as stated by District 113 Superintendent Chala Holland.

Holland added that he had successfully passed a criminal background check at the time of employment.

Even though he was not actively involved in coaching, Cohen was still listed as a volunteer coach in the parent wrestling handbook for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years. However, after 2022-2023, Cohen’s name was no longer included in subsequent handbooks, and he did not serve in any coaching role after 2019-2020, according to Holland.

The district said no other current or former employees are being charged with Cohen.

According to Holland, District 113 has no knowledge of any accusations of criminal behavior against Cohen during his time as a volunteer assistant wrestling coach.

He is due in court on Thursday.
