Hilaria Baldwin appeared on Today With Jenna & Friends to promote her new memoir Manual Not Included, where she offers a peek into her life with her husband, Alec Baldwin. During the show, guest host Matt Rogers didn’t shy away from addressing the tragic incident that occurred on the set of Alec’s film Rust in 2021.
“I just wanna know how has that been for your family?” Rogers asked, prompting Hilaria to respond with a sigh.
When asked about how her family has been coping since the shooting, Hilaria admitted it has been a challenging time. She shared that she addresses the tragedy extensively in both her book and their new reality show, The Baldwins.
In October 2021, a shooting on the set of Rust led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and the injury of director Joel Souza. Alec Baldwin, adamant that he didn’t pull the trigger, was later cleared of charges of involuntary manslaughter in 2024 after a thorough investigation and trial. This decision meant he would not face jail time and couldn’t be prosecuted again by the state.
“In life, sometimes bad things happen, and through our process of trying to make sense out of something that can never be made sense out of because itâs just awful, we leaned into other people and other people sharing their stories with us,” Hilaria said on Today.
She added that they coped with the tragedy by “staying together and putting one foot in front of the other.”
The Baldwins continued filming their TLC reality show amidst the ongoing trial, despite the looming possibility of jail time. According to sources with knowledge of the matter, the couple signed on to the do the show âwhile Alec was already dealing with his legal issues,” per the New York Post.
And the trial is a central focus on the show as they grapple with the aftermath while parenting their seven child, who range from ages two to 11.
âA son lost his mom in the most unthinkable tragedy,â Hilaria says in the trailer. âThis is never something to forget, and weâre trying to parent through it.â
