Pope Francis’ most memorable moments as pontiff in photos

1. Pope Francis was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on Dec. 17, 1936, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was elected as the 266th pope of the Roman Catholic Church in March 2013, becoming the first pope from the Americas, the first Jesuit pope, and the first pope from the Southern Hemisphere.
