President Donald Trump has come in with a mandate to uphold the law and deport people who are here illegally.
He’s begun doing that, including sending deportation flights to various nations.
There has been controversy surrounding deportation flights to Colombia, particularly when it was reported that the Colombian president was refusing military flights carrying illegal immigrants back to the country.
President Gustavo Petro took to social media to announce that he would not allow two American planes transporting Colombian migrants to land in their territory until a proper protocol for the respectful treatment of these individuals was put in place.
In response, former President Trump threatened severe consequences if Colombia maintained this position, including imposing 25 percent tariffs, visa sanctions, and financial penalties. A senior official in the administration emphasized the importance of countries fulfilling their obligation to accept repatriation flights.
