After a thrilling first season consisting of eight episodes with intricate conversations, surprising appearances by guest stars, mesmerizing ballet displays, and memorable romantic moments, Season 1 of Étoile concludes in a way that will surely leave fans eagerly anticipating more.
Will the viewers see Jack (Luke Kirby), Cheyenne (Lou de Laâge), Genevieve (Charlotte Gainsbourg), Tobias (Gideon Glick), and the other main characters at New York’s Metropolitan Ballet Theater and France’s Ballet National again? Or can they expect a second season to continue the story with “The Swap”?
Prior to Étoile, admirers of Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino may have adored the duo’s initial dance-infused drama, Bunheads, which got canceled prematurely in 2012 following only one season. Despite being a more elaborate series, filmed in two languages and across two different continents, and benefiting from streaming capabilities, fans who have long appreciated the Palladino duo’s work understandably have concerns about the possibility of a Season 2 renewal due to past disappointments.
So will there be an Ãtoile Season 2 on Prime Video? Has the streamer renewed or canceled the series yet? And what would an Ãtoile Season 2 be about? We’ve got answers.
Here’s everything to know about the future of Ãtoile, including comments from the Palladinos and Kirby about that big finale kiss.
Ãtoile fans, it’s time to breathe a serious sigh of relief. Prime Video picked up Ãtoile with a two-season order back in April 2023, which means the Palladinos, Kirby, and more core cast members will be returning to continue this compelling story.
“Well, guess that plan for early retirement will have to wait. Instead, we’ve decided to embark on an international journey with an unbelievable group of players and the most talented ballet dancers in the world. We will sleep when we’re dead,” the Palladinos said in a statement, per The Hollywood Reporter.
With such a buzzworthy final scene, a stacked cast, and powerhouse showrunners behind Ãtoile, it’s no surprise the series is coming back for more. The question now is when can fans expect new episodes?
As of Season 1âs premiere on April 24, 2025, an official Season 2 date has yet to be announced, but stay tuned for updates. Assuming the series tries to stick to a fan-favored one season per year model, here’s hoping we could have new episodes of Ãtoile in 2026. While we wait for more Season 2 updates, let’s look back at that eventful Season 1 finale, shall we?
If you need a more expansive rundown of Ãtoile‘s Season 1 finale, Decider gives an Episode 8 update on the core characters here. Season 2 will likely deliver more of the same and follow the two ballet companies in New York and Paris as “The Swap” continues. For the purposes of this piece, however, we’re focusing on that major finale kiss and seeing what the Palladinos and Kirby have to say about a Season 2 love triangle.
After an incredibly emotional performance to a live Sparks performance, Cheyenne raced off stage and broke down sobbing. Jack followed, the two passionately shouted at each other, and finally, they surrendered to the palpable chemistry between them with an intense, passionate, swoon-worthy kiss that ended Season 1 on a scream-worthy cliffhanger and set up a compelling love triangle between Jack, Cheyenne, and Genevieve in Season 2.
âWe knew that we were eventually gonna land on them at some point. We just didnât exactly know where until we got a little deeper into the process,â Dan Palladino told Decider over Zoom. âLou and Luke are so good together. The thing is, Luke and Charlotte are so good together, that it does make it hard. Theyâre both smart, sharp women. Theyâre both difficult in their relationships, in their own way. And heâs both the right and the wrong man for both of them. So itâs kind of like the perfect love triangle, where none of them should be together.â
â[Jack and Cheyenne] touch upon it in the first episode,” Kirby added, referencing Jack and Cheyenne’s romantic history five years prior. “Thereâs sort of this sad, reflective moment where Cheyenne is learning about how New York has changed since her last time being here. And to me, just those few lines spoke volumes to their shared history.”
When if he was rooting for Jack and Cheyenne when he read the finale script, the Ãtoile star added, âI think theyâre both worthy relationships. Theyâre friendships. Everyone in this story is drawn to one art form and is driven by trying to keep its vitality present. I donât know where itâs going. I have ideas for sure, but nobodyâs gonna listen to me.â
We’ll have to wait and see what Ãtoile has in store for Jack, Cheyenne, and Genevieve â but one thing’s for sure: The Palladinos know how to write a good love triangle that leaves characters and viewers alike pining, swooning, and everything in between.
Ãtoile Season 1 is now streaming on Prime Video.
