Will There Be A ‘Bad Sisters’ Season 3 On Apple TV+? Everything We Know

The Season 2 finale of Bad Sisters was appropriately named “Cliff Hanger” due to a highly suspenseful moment involving an actual cliff. Despite the dramatic scene, the episode did not end on a traditional cliffhanger.

While the Season 1 finale left several storylines unresolved to pave the way for the next season, the conclusion of Season 2 had a sense of finality that may leave viewers questioning whether they have seen the last of the Garvey sisters, or if a potential Season 3 of Bad Sisters could be on the horizon.

Adapted from Malin-Sarah Gozin’s Belgian series Clan, the popular dark comedy on Apple TV+ by Sharon Horgan was initially planned as a single season. Following the sisters Eva, Bibi, Ursula, Becka, and Grace breaking free from Grace’s abusive husband JP, played by Claes Bang, Sharon Horgan held out for a compelling idea for a second season – and fortunately, one emerged.

Season 2 picked up two years after JP’s death, introduced several new cast members, and saw the sisters dealing with Grace’s new problematic husband Ian (Owen McDonnell). Now, after a major finale showdown between Ian and the Garvey girls, the future of Bad Sisters remains in question.

How did Bad Sisters Season 2 end? Will there be a Bad Sisters Season 3 on Apple TV+? Has the streamer renewed or canceled the series? And what does creator and star Sharon Horgan have to say about a potential Season 3? We’ve got answers, but be warned, Bad Sisters Season 2 spoilers are ahead.

Before we dive into Bad Sisters Season 3 updates, it’s helpful to know how Season 2 wrapped, so here’s a refresher on the riveting finale. If you’re looking for a detailed Season 2, Episode 8 recap, Decider’s got you covered. Otherwise, here are the main points you need to know before you consider a potential Season 3.

As Ian and the Garvey sisters were having it out, Angelica walked in on them, overheard him insulting Grace, and bashed him on the head so forcefully that he fell, smashed his head on the kitchen table, and started profusely bleeding. Assuming he was dead, the sisters took his body to the cliffs to dump. Turns out, Ian was still alive, so he dragged himself out of Bibi’s trunk, fearfully backed away from the sisters, and accidentally fell off the cliff’s edge himself. Sound too good to be true? It was! Ian survived his fall, and rather than finish him off, Eva called an ambulance and the sisters braced for the consequences of their actions.

As the Garveys were dealing with Ian, Houlihan was investigating him and learned his real identity was Cormack Sweeney, an ex-cop with a major criminal record. After Angelica came clean, admitting that she murdered Ian and the sisters were disposing of his body, Houlihan planned to arrest them. But after learning that Ian survived, had majorly wronged the Garveys, and her fellow officers played a role in covering criminal behavior, the detective decided to help the sisters out. She called DI Loftus in for backup, and the two visited Ian in the hospital, where Loftus informed Ian he’d contradict any case made against the Garvey family. He ordered Ian to give Blanaid’s money back, and with the law on their side for once, the Garvey girls were finally able to move forward. The final scene showed them giving Grace a proper memorial service, sending her ashes out to sea, and saying an emotional goodbye. But was the goodbye for good? Or will they return for another season?

As of Bad Sisters’ Season 2 finale date, Apple TV+ had yet to officially renew or cancel the series for a third season, but judging by creator and star Sharon Horgan’s comments, there’s reason to believe that this is where the story ends.

When speaking with Deadline ahead of the finale, Horgan shared thoughts on a potential Season 3, explaining, “I love those girls so much, and I actually enjoyed this season, making it, with all the hardships and terrible times. It was such an amazing cast, and Fiona and Owen and Barry and Thaddea, they all fit in so beautifully. My brain obviously had such a great time, but I feel like the ending is the ending.”

Horgan went on to explain why she thought a Season 2 made sense, and why she thinks it might be best (and make the most sense) to let the Garvey sisters end on the hopeful finale note rather than push for another continuation.

“As sad as it is to say goodbye, the thing with this second season was that it had to be, the events of Season 2 had to be fully impacted by what happened in Season 1,” Horgan said. “These were always supposed to be ordinary women who an extraordinary thing happened to and how they dealt with it. And I didn’t ever want it to be a thing where just crazy shit kind of happens to them. It’s the actions of ‘The Prick’ and his terrible legacy and how they deal with it and bad choices they make, but that can’t keep happening because otherwise, it’s Nancy Drew. It’s something else entirely.”

Though I’d personally love to watch these sisters do anything forever, a showrunner who’s willing to go out on a high rather than reach for storylines and risk the show overstaying its welcome deserves serious respect. While we’ll have to wait for an official word on the end of Bad Sisters, if the Season 2 finale does wind up being the end of the series, at least it’s a satisfying one.

If the Garvey girls waved goodbye for good, we’ll miss them terribly, but they had one heck of a run. Bad Sisters skillfully avoided the sophomore slump, and it will remain one of Apple TV+’s greatest, most underrated series.

Bad Sisters Season 2 is now streaming on Apple TV+.
