Jeff Bezos Makes Major Announcement About WaPo Editorial Page, and Liberals Are Apoplectic Over It

Billionaire Jeff Bezos stated on Wednesday morning that significant changes are in store for The Washington Post. The paper, long recognized as one of the most left-wing and biased news sources in the nation, will see a complete overhaul of its editorial page, eliciting strong reactions from liberals.

Bezos, the owner of The Post, has indicated that instead of representing extreme progressive views, the editorials will now focus on free markets and individual freedoms.

BEZOS:

Our emphasis will be on advocating for and upholding two core principles: personal freedoms and free markets. While we will touch upon various other subjects, perspectives contrary to these principles will be directed to other publications.

There was a time when a newspaper, especially one that was a local monopoly, might have seen it as a service to bring to the reader’s doorstep every morning a broad-based opinion section that sought to cover all views. Today, the internet does that job.

I offered David Shipley, whom I greatly admire, the opportunity to lead this new chapter. I suggested to him that if the answer wasn’t “hell yes,” then it had to be “no.” After careful consideration, David decided to step away. This is a significant shift, it won’t be easy, and it will require 100% commitment —  I respect his decision. We’ll be searching for a new Opinion Editor to own this new direction.

I’m confident that free markets and personal liberties are right for America. I also believe these viewpoints are underserved in the current market of ideas and news opinion. I’m excited for us together to fill that void.

Notably, those two topics partisan in nature, which begs the question of why left-wingers are rushing to cancel their subscriptions after the announcement. Phillip Bump, who writes for the Post, simply posted, “What the actual f***.”  So yeah, he’s probably not keeping his job under the editorial board’s new direction.
