Jenna Bush Hager and Brooke Shields found out during their time on the show “Today” that they both admire singer Brandi Carlile. They were surprised to discover this common interest between them.
The co-hosts bonded over their not-so-secret crushes and boldly admitted that they would both leave their husbands for a chance with the singer.
Bush Hager was the first to admit she’s “obsessed” with Carlile after announcing her plans to collaborate with Elton John on a new album.
Shields responded, “I’m obsessed with both of them, but I think we both would leave our husbands for her.”
The two women laughed together as they revealed that they had jokingly told their husbands that they would consider leaving them for a chance with Carlile. Shields shared a funny anecdote about her husband’s reaction to her crush on Carlile.
“We have the same type in women!” Bush Hager remarked, which sparked a laugh from Shields, who agreed, “Yeah, we do. We have the same taste.”
The Today host then revealed that she once narrowly missed her shot with Carlile after seeing her perform at Madison Square Garden.
Bush Hager recalled a moment when she had the opportunity to meet Carlile backstage at Madison Square Garden but missed it because she was already on her way home. Despite being happily married, she couldn’t help but imagine what could have happened in that moment.
She then clarified, “I mean I’m married too, we’re both married, we’re all married! Why is she such a dream?”
Shields credited Carlile’s allure to her “beautiful feminine, masculine energy.”
This isn’t the first time Bush Hager has joked about crushes and affairs on the show. She once guiltily admitted that she may have gone “too far” when she joked about having an affair on the show.
She and Hoda Kotb were discussing how “hot” it is to see a man reading in public when Bush Hager remarked, “I mean, if they’re reading something I respect, that could be grounds for an affair.” She then immediately walked her statement back as she clarified, “I’m just kidding, I would never do that. I would never. Henry and I are very happy. And he reads.”
“I shouldn’t have said that, I went too far,” Bush Hager later admitted when Kotb asked why she was becoming “defensive.”
