Jimmy Kimmel would like to take the Associated Press’ spot in the White House press corps.
During his recent monologue on the show Live, the late-night host made a humorous request for an invitation to the White House. This request came after he shared clips of the meeting between Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin and President Donald Trump. The host humorously pointed out how most of Trump’s meetings are now held in front of the press, emphasizing the administration’s desire for media attention.
Interestingly, while traditional media outlets like the Associated Press are excluded from these meetings, other reporters like Brian Glenn, who is known for being Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s boyfriend and the chief White House correspondent for Real America’s Voice, have gained prominence in the press corps. The host highlighted this shift in press attendees and the increasing presence of less conventional media representatives.
This shift in media representation at the White House was further criticized by the host for replacing established outlets with more favorable ones, leading to what he described as a “buffet of buffoonery.” He specifically mentioned incidents involving Brian Glenn, such as when he questioned a dignitary about their attire, illustrating the sometimes unconventional behavior of the new wave of reporters in these press settings.
Kimmel then shared a clip from Trump’s meeting, where Glenn complimented Prime Minister Martin’s suit and asked, “Ireland is known for very happy, fun-loving people, great attitude… why in the world did you let Rosie O’Donnell move to Ireland? She’s just going to lower your happiness level.”
The late night host pointed out that, if the White House is inviting “stupid questions,” he would like to be included.
“If they’re gonna allow stupid questions to be asked at the White House, I would like them to invite me to ask some stupid questions,” he said. “Mr. President, I’m with ABC. When you’re on the toilet, do you ever look down and cry?”
He also pointed out that Glenn seems to have reignited Trump’s feud with O’Donnell. In the clip, Trump told Glenn he liked his question about O’Donnell. He also told PM Martin he was “better off not knowing” who O’Donnell is.
“This feud with Rosie has been going on longer than me and Matt Damon,” Kimmel quipped.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
