Back in 2019, the city of Chicago’s Law Department took legal action against Smollett because he missed a deadline to pay over $130,000 related to the alleged staged attack.
Initially, Smollett already paid $10,000 in 2019. Now, in addition to that amount, he will be paying another $50,000 to the “BBF Building Brighter Futures Center for the Arts,” a local organization that supports the community and provides opportunities for Chicago’s disadvantaged young people.
The Chicago Department of Law mentioned in a statement that this agreement is seen as a fair and final resolution that allows all involved parties to put an end to this saga that started six years ago.
Smollett’s attorney Torri Hamilton released the following statement:
“Jussie was happy to end this saga by contributing to a cause he loves to benefit Chicago youth. He still loves the people of Chicago but is pleased to put this ordeal in his rearview mirror.”
