Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has faced increasing pressure from fellow Democrats since Donald Trump’s second inauguration. Many within the party feel that Schumer has not been forceful enough in supporting their intense resistance against President Trump.
Democrats were particularly disappointed when Schumer yielded to Republicans on the continuing resolution in March. This caused some on the left to start suggesting that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) should challenge him in the 2028 primary.
In addition, Schumer had to delay a book tour that was planned for predominantly liberal cities due to strong backlash from Democratic constituents. Staff members cited “security concerns” as the reason for the postponement.
