There is a shared desire among nations to navigate these discussions without sparking tensions with U.S. President Donald Trump, who has threatened to take over the host country.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has outlined his main priorities for the summit, which include enhancing peace and security, establishing resilient mineral supply chains, and generating employment opportunities. However, Trump’s trade tariffs affecting multiple countries and the ongoing conflicts in regions such as the Middle East and Ukraine are likely to be significant focal points during the meeting.
The conflict between Israel and Iran escalated as both parties launched fresh attacks on each other, leading to a rise in casualties since the Israeli offensive was initiated on Friday. The situation remains fluid, with tensions running high and the international community closely monitoring developments.
A G7 official said the leaders plan to issue a joint statement calling for de-escalation in the conflict.

A senior U.S. official said on Friday that working discussions would cover trade and the global economy, critical minerals, migrant and drug smuggling, wildfires, international security, artificial intelligence and energy security.
“The president is eager to pursue his goals in all of these areas, including making America’s trade relationships fair and reciprocal,” the official said.
Trump will have at least three scheduled bilateral meetings during the summit with other world leaders, including with Carney, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
