President Donald Trump has announced the reinstatement of Columbus Day, an American holiday that has faced criticism from left-leaning individuals who have sought to diminish its significance in favor of a more socially conscious alternative. Over the years, far-left progressives have actively worked to discredit American heroes and historical figures, even going as far as to physically remove statues and monuments.
In a statement shared on his Truth Social account, President Trump expressed his intention to revive Columbus Day and criticized the efforts made by the Democrats to tarnish the legacy of Christopher Columbus and the sentiments of those of Italian heritage who hold him in high regard.

The President highlighted the Left’s campaign to dismantle monuments dedicated to the explorer and replace Columbus Day with “Indigenous Peoples Day,” shedding light on the ongoing cultural and political debates surrounding historical figures and their commemorations.

“They tore down his Statues, and put up nothing but ‘WOKE,’ or even worse, nothing at all!” Trump said.
He’s not wrong. As recently as February, the former governor/prime minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, missed the plot when he used his official X account to celebrate that wokeified alternative to Columbus Day, when his country was in the middle of a tragic event.
Then, during the 2024 presidential election, President. Trump made a promise to an NC tribe to recognize it, if he were reelected to a second term.

Rioters and lefty activists spewing anti-colonialist slogans have sought to destroy or deface with graffiti the likenesses of Columbus, with Ivory Tower elitists at universities backing them up with essays by the droves, condemning the treatment of Native Americans by our nation as white supremacy or worse.
As my colleague Brandon Morse wrote in 2024, this is not an accident. The Left all but reveals how much they hate you with this move. He wrote:
The reason I make this point is that the left seems to want to use the idea that Western civilization began with a bunch of white people showing up and murdering innocent people because they were greedy like that. In that vein, they want to rewrite history and make celebrating the 1492 landing of Christopher Columbus taboo. Instead, they want that day replaced with “Indigenous Peoples Day.”
Pres. Trump’s statement ended with:
“Well, you’ll be happy to know, Christopher is going to make a major comeback. I am hereby reinstating Columbus Day under the same rules, dates, and locations, as it has had for all of the many decades before!”
The White House even got in on the fun, sharing a meme with Trump and Christopher Columbus:

Cue the wailing and gnashing of teeth on the left.
