Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mark Juhas, who ruled in favor of allowing the chemical castration of James Younger, the son of Jeff Younger, was served with a recall petition notice Friday.
Citizens who are active in their communities, collaborating with National File and Younger’s Patriot’s Legal Defense Fund, have begun the process of ousting Juhas from his position.

Following a lengthy legal battle with his former spouse, who alleged that James Younger identified as transgender from a very young age, Juhas made a ruling in November 2024. The ruling stripped Jeff Younger of any custody rights over his children, granting full guardianship to James’ mother, who has been advocating for James’ gender transition since a young age.
The elder Younger had previously shared joint custody of the children in Texas, where a judge ruled that his ex-wife could not proceed with gender mutilation procedures without Younger’s consent.
“I lost all parental rights to my sons. Goodbye, boys. Perhaps, we will meet when you are adults. California Judge Juhas gave my ex-wife authority to castrate my son, James. All contact with my boys must be supervised,” Younger announced on X at the time.
“I won’t do that. I send letters and gifts to my sons. My ex is not required to give them to the boys. I cannot post pictures of my sons. Let my story be a cautionary one for young men. Fathers have no rights to their children. Do not enter the family law system.”

In California, recalling a superior court judge requires that the petitioners garner the amount of signatures equal to 20 percent of the number of votes received by the judge in his or her latest election.
If a recall petition is successfully filed and accepted, the state is required to announce a recall election within 14 days of receipt of the document. The state is then required to hold that recall election now more than 125 days later.
Juhas was selected without a primary or general election process to serve as the Los Angeles Superior Court Judge for Office 17 in 2022, according to Ballotpedia,
