Liz Murrill, the Attorney General of Louisiana, revealed the apprehension of a former staff member of the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office (OPSO) suspected of being the partner of Derrick Groves, who remains at large.
In a statement released by Murrill, it was disclosed that Darriana Burton, a 28-year-old ex-OPSO employee, was taken into custody on Monday for allegedly aiding Groves in his departure from the facility. Authorities believe Burton to be Groves’ girlfriend.
An arrest warrant for Burton was issued on May 27 on a charge of conspiracy to commit simple escape.
The United States Marshalls Service detained her in New Orleans on Monday. According to an arrest affidavit, the woman is accused of facilitating communication between Groves and individuals external to the prison, as well as sharing information pertinent to the escape.

“We will continue to pursue anyone and everyone who has aided and abetted these criminals. We will find you, arrest you, and prosecute you to the full extent of the law. I’d like to thank the US Marshals Service for executing our warrant for this woman. We will arrest all aiders and abettors, and we will eventually get Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves back to prison where they belong,” Murrill said.
