The Secret Service shot a man during an armed confrontation near the White House Sunday, the agency announced.Â
The incident took place just after midnight, about a block away from the White House, on the west side of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
The Secret Service stated that on Saturday, police provided details about a potentially suicidal person who was believed to be en route from Indiana to Washington, D.C.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital and his condition is unknown, a Secret Service spokesperson said.
There were no reported injuries to Secret Service personnel.

Within the District of Columbia, the Metropolitan Police Department will take charge of the inquiry into the shooting as they hold the main responsibility for use-of-force cases, confirmed the Secret Service.
