Mel Gibson slams Gavin Newsom amid LA fires in scathing rant on Joe Rogan podcast

During a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Mel Gibson criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom amidst the devastating LA fires that have displaced numerous celebrities.

Gibson, a 69-year-old seasoned actor, launched a scathing attack on the democratic leader for his controversial response to a woman seeking answers about the wildfires during an appearance on the popular podcast.

Gibson pulled no punches as he went on a scathing rant about Newsom while chatting with the 57-year-old UFC commentator.

The actor said: ‘I think Newsom said “I’m gonna take care of the forest and maintain the forest and do all that kinda stuff”—he didn’t do anything.’

According to Rogan, he believes that Governor Newsom ought to allocate tax funds towards aiding the homeless community rather than solely focusing on fire prevention efforts.

The Passion Of The Christ director agreed with the host before joking: ‘I think all our tax dollars probably went to Gavin’s hair gel.’

Gibson also offered up his own theory about the LA fires as he waits to find out the fate of his own home in Malibu and whether it is still standing amid the state of emergency.

The actor said: ‘All those earmarks, the precursors of a collapse, they’re present in our time.’

The Braveheart star cited 2011 Jared Diamond book Collapse: How Societies Choose To Fail Or Succeed as he said ‘it didn’t take long’ for a civilization to collapse.

Gibson explained: ‘It says all the things you need for a civilization to cave in and collapse.

‘It’s an interesting observation. And we’re no smarter than our grandparents.’

Gibson went on to reveal that his son Milo – who is in the volunteer fire brigade in Malibu – gave him an update on his neighborhood.

He said: ‘[My son] sent me a video of my neighborhood and it’s in flames. It looks like an inferno.’

Rogan asked if this would be the final straw for him to finally move out of the state of California.

Gibson had an interesting answer for where he would go if he left Los Angeles as he said: ‘I got a place in Costa Rica – I love it there.’

The death toll of the historic infernos have now reached six, as heroic firefighters still battle hellish conditions on the front lines of at least five different fires.

Apocalyptic fires tore through the ritzy enclave of Pacific Palisades on Tuesday, rapidly spreading to surrounding suburbs as a windstorm carried embers and debris in all directions.

Residents fled and then waited with bated breath to learn more about their homes, as news began trickling out that entire streets had been wiped off the map, firefighters were running out of water, and resources were being diverted to fight the fire on multiple fronts.

This came as Newsom was left fumbling for a response after he was chased down by a distraught Los Angeles mom demanding answers over the wildfires ravaging the city.

The California Governor apologized and claimed to be trying to reach the president on the phone when he was accosted by the emotional woman on Thursday.

It came as large swathes of the city remained engulfed by the flames which have destroyed thousands of homes and businesses.

Newsom was unable to provide a concrete response about the recovery effort during the grilling, which lasted almost two, excruciating minutes.

Gibson also offered up his own theory about the LA fires as he waits to find out the fate of his own home in Malibu and whether it is still standing amid the state of emergency. The actor said: 'All those earmarks, the precursors of a collapse, they¿re present in our time'

‘Governor that was my daughter’s school,’ the mom cried as she ran over to Newsom’s vehicle.

‘I’m literally talking to the president right now to specifically answer the question of what we can do for you and your daughter,’ Newsom replied.

But when she asked if she could be a party to the call, the Governor was forced to admit he had yet to get hold of the president.

‘I’ve tried five times to make the call,’ Newsom said, prompting the woman to ask why the president is not taking his call.

‘It’s not going through, I have to get cell service,’ he added which only caused the persistent mom to insist she wants to be there when he gets it.

‘I’m devastated for you, I am so sorry, especially for your daughter,’ Newsom said. ‘I have four kids, losing a school…’.

‘Everyone who went to school there, they lost two homes because they were living in one home or another,’ the mom then interjected before asking, ‘Why was there no water in the hydrants governor?’

As the exchange continued, Newsom vowed that things would be different ‘next time’, without specifying any detail.

‘I would fill up the hydrants myself, would you do that?’ the woman demanded of the increasingly uncomfortable Newsom, who insisted he would do ‘whatever it takes’.

‘But you’re not!’ the resident then exploded, before informing him there was ‘water dripping’ nearby that could be used.

Newsom then started climbing into the vehicle even as the woman continued to beg for his contact details.

Her concerns echo those of many Los Angelinos who have questioned the response to the wildfires which have so far claimed six lives and decimated at least 2,000 buildings.

On Thursday, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass tried to deflect criticism that fire hydrants rans dry by insisting they were filled, but simply were not designed to cope with a disaster of this scale.

Her comments came as the fires continued to burn for the third consecutive day, with the Pacific Palisades blaze becoming the most devastating in the county’s history.

Almost 180,000 people are under evacuation orders, with hundreds of thousands still without power.
