School Districts in Michigan Look to Defy Trump and Federal Government on Funding Over Gender Identity

Some people in the country may not be happy about the following story, which I will discuss today. But first, let’s recollect some recent events that were reported by my colleague Sister Toldjah in a story last month:

Game On: Donald Trump Confronts Maine Governor in Heated Exchange Over Vow to Defy Women’s Sports EO

The Governor of Maine had a minor verbal spat with Trump, as shown below.

“We will not be providing them with federal funding because they continue to advocate for allowing men to compete in women’s sports, and I find it difficult to understand why they support such initiatives…” he remarked.

On Friday, tensions arose when Trump directly addressed Maine’s Democratic Governor Janet Mills during his welcome speech at the National Governors Association meeting at the White House…

Trump did not mince words

ZING and MIC DROP.

Trump knows how to do the mic drop, and when you’re the president of the United States and you are controlling the microphone and the room, anyone going up against you is going to be outmatched.

Well, here in my home state of Michigan, we have some school districts that are looking to mix it up with the Trump Administration and the federal dollars that they provide. Now I’m not sure if the people who call the shots in these districts are aware of Trump’s sparring with the governor of Maine, but their result is not going to be any better. I read about it right HERE:

Complaints have been filed against four Michigan public school districts — Rochester Community Schools, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools, Hartland Consolidated Schools and Mt. Pleasant Public Schools — alleging their policies on gender identity violate Title IX, the federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination in any education program or activity that receives federal funding.

They are just supposed to get the federal dollars, no questions asked.

That same argument would seem to apply here. Democrats may see Trump’s executive orders as fleeting and unenforceable. But the applicable law is Title IX.

“These school districts in Michigan have policies that do not protect the rights of young women in bathrooms, locker rooms and sports teams,” says Matthew Wilk, a Plymouth attorney and president of Get Kids Back to School, who signed and filed the complaint on Tuesday against Plymouth-Canton Community Schools.
