Mike Waltz Admits 'We Made a Mistake'; How Goldberg Was Added to Signal Chat Remains Under Investigation

National Security Advisor Mike Waltz made an appearance on Fox News show “The Ingraham Angle” to discuss the recent exposure of a Signal chat among the Trump administration’s national security team. The chat was revealed in an article written by Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg on Monday.

Goldberg claimed that he was accidentally added to a Signal group chat that included Vice President JD Vance, NSA Mike Waltz, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and other members of the Trump administration’s national security team. He alleged that through this chat, he gained access to classified information related to the bombing of the Houthis in Yemen. Although National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes confirmed the authenticity of the Signal chat, Hegseth denied that any war plans were discussed over texts during a press conference in Hawaii. President Donald Trump expressed his support for Mike Waltz, emphasizing his confidence in Waltz’s abilities.

Ingraham opened with the obvious question: “How did a Trump-hating journalist from The Atlantic end up on your Signal chat?”

Waltz responded:

During the interview, concerns were raised about how someone like Goldberg, who has a history of criticizing and spreading false information about the President, ended up being included in the chat. Despite Waltz being commended by Trump, questions remain about Goldberg’s involvement and the nature of the discussions that took place in the Signal group.

Waltz confirmed that aside from the mistake made, the question of how Jeffrey Goldberg ended up being added to the chat was a point that was under investigation.

It’s embarrassing, yes. We’re going to get to the bottom of it — I just talked to Elon on the way here, we’ve got the best technical minds looking at how this happened. But I can tell you; I can tell you for 100 percent: I don’t know this guy. I know him by his horrible reputation, and he really is the bottom scum of journalists. And I know him in the sense that he hates the president. But I don’t text him, he wasn’t on my phone, and we’re going to figure out how this happened.

Ingraham pushed Waltz several times on whether it was a staffer on his Intel team. Waltz was adamant that “a staffer wasn’t responsible. Look, I take full responsibility. I built the group; my job is to make sure everyone is coordinated.”

WATCH:

Waltz also further emphasized not having any relationship or knowledge of Jeffrey Goldberg beyond the editor’s infamous reputation related to hoaxes and Trump hatred.

No idea. Wouldn’t know him if I bumped into him; if I saw him in a police lineup. Do now! Knew him by reputation, about lying about the president over and over and over again. What I can tell you for certain: Certainly wasn’t reaching out or talking to him at all. Why would I?
