Al Roker made his way into the conversation on Live with Kelly and Mark on Tuesday.
Mark Consuelos remembered a past instance when he was featured as one of the “celebrity weathermen” on Good Morning America. He shared how he unintentionally used the famous tagline of the Today Show, a rival program on NBC, during his segment.
He recalled being instructed not to say “Here’s what’s happening in your neck of the woods,” which is the signature catchphrase of Al Roker on the Today Show. This moment brought a light-hearted ribbing from his wife and co-host, Kelly Ripa, who humorously pointed out his blunder and joked that he only had one task.
Consuelos continued, “And they put it in my head. Now it’s in my head. And that’s what I said. And they never had me back. I love Al. Hey, Al.”
Kelly Ripa playfully teased Mark Consuelos about his mistake, insinuating that he overlooked a simple instruction. Despite acknowledging that he was aware it was a misstep, Consuelos found himself in an amusing situation. The incident also triggered a memory for Ripa, who mentioned a voicemail left for her by Al Roker, whom she and Consuelos had planned to double date with alongside his wife, Deborah Roberts.
“Back in the early iPhone phases… entire text chains would pop up, or, if you left a voicemail, like cellphones were wild. So Mark’s cellphone number and my cellphone number would get confused, like in contacts,” Ripa explained.
Consuelos, who was “working in Canada” and “not living home a lot” at the time, recalled Ripa’s phone being in bed when a message came up.
“This text went, ‘Hey sweetie. When can we have dinner? Love, Al,” Consuelos recalled. “Something like that.”
Ripa clarified, “First of all, it did not say, ‘Hey sweetie.’ That’s you, like, putting your own twist on it.”
Consuelos quipped, “That’s what I saw. She gets back into bed, and I go, ‘Who the blank is Al?’”
Ripa replied, “And I go, ‘Al Roker, our new best friend!’”
The co-host couple looked back on the “wild” and “very funny” moment, as Ripa teased that they “never had that couples’ date” and should try to make it happen. Toward the end of their host chat, Ripa revisited the story as she brought up a Live segment on “romantic retreats.”
“Another thing we can fantasize about, a romantic retreat,” she told Consuelos, who did not match her enthusiasm. “Or not.”
Consuelos added, “I think whenever we go somewhere, it’s romantic.”
“We’ll go to your neck of the woods, Al… ‘Who the blank is Al?’” Ripa joked. “He’s my lover, I said it!”
After cracking up, Consuelos concluded, “I condone that.”
