Kentucky mother, 7-year-old daughter among 9 dead from flooding

The severe flooding in Kentucky claimed the lives of a mother and her 7-year-old daughter. At least nine people have died in the state as a result of the flooding, as confirmed by officials on Sunday.

Tragically, the mother and child were swept away in Kentucky’s Bonnieville community on Saturday night when their vehicle became submerged in floodwater, according to Hart County Coroner Tony Roberts.

Responding to the incident, Roberts mentioned that the child’s body was found later on Saturday night, while the mother’s body was recovered on Sunday afternoon, as reported by WNKY-TV. The names of the deceased mother and daughter have not yet been disclosed.

Most of the deaths in Kentucky were caused by cars getting stuck in high water, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said Sunday.

Parts of Kentucky and Tennessee received up to 6 inches of rain, said Bob Oravec, a senior forecaster with the National Weather Service.

Photos posted by authorities and residents on social media showed cars and buildings underwater in south-central and eastern Kentucky.

President Donald Trump approved the state’s request for a disaster declaration, authorizing the Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate relief efforts throughout the state.
