Only a week has passed since Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey took the Senate floor to deliver an extended speech that wowed the media, particularly after it was revealed that Booker had officially set a new record for the longest Senate speech ever.
News outlets like the Associated Press highlighted how Booker “was holding the Senate floor with a marathon speech that lasted all night and well into Tuesday morning in a feat of endurance to show Democrats’ objections” to President Trump and his policy agenda.
Despite the attention it garnered, GOP strategist Scott Jennings questioned the purpose of Booker’s speech since it did not seem to be halting any pending legislation or the confirmation of Trump’s appointees.
“So maybe this was an attempt by him to try to wrest control of at least the spiritual leadership of the national party. I don’t know if it will work,” Jennings observed.
